The second talented player from the Northants Basketball Club
to be featured is..... Logan Tanner Over recent years there has been a move in basketball coaching to produce complete players rather than players for specific positions.
In theory this is a good idea but in practice it is very difficult and rarely achieved. One such player was Logan Tanner who last season played for the Northants “Thunder” Under 16, Under 17 and Under 18 teams. A pupil at Duston School, Logan was able to fulfill numerous roles for all three teams with an ability to ‘handle’ the ball, play as a forward but with an ability to ‘post up’ smaller opponents. With Club’s Under 16 team Logan averaged 15 points and 9 rebounds per game over the course of the season. His highlight game came in the overtime win over Nottingham “Hoods” a game I which he scored 23 points including all ten points “Thunder” scored in overtime. Last Sunday the Northants “Lightning” Junior Women faced one of the most unpleasant experiences in sport, namely a long journey home after a disappointing defeat.
After their long journey north “Lightning” made an excellent start to the game edging the first quarter 15-12 thanks to nine points from Amelia Wesley-Maryan. It was a very different “Eagles” team that hit the court for the second quarter and their physical play seriously disrupted “Lightning’s” offensive play. The home team won the quarter 24-12 to take a 33-28 half time lead but “Lightning” were still well in contention if they could cope with the physical nature of the game. The Northants Junior Men welcomed National League new boys Lincolnshire “Panthers” to the Basketball Centre last Saturday and showed them what the step up to the National League was all about. “Thunder” rushed into a 17-4 lead but their defence was adjudged to be over aggressive resulting in “Panthers” closing the gap to 27-10 from the free throw line.
The start of the second quarter saw “Thunder” become too passive allowing “Panthers” to go on a 10-zero run to close the gap to 27-20. “Thunder” re-grouped and went on a 16-10 run to lead 43- 30 at half time but the visitors were still in the game. CLICK HERE to download the full Press Release |
