Super “Thunder” Under 15 Boys demolish “Riders”
Winning a Play Off title is always an achievement but convincingly beating a team attached to a BBL Club makes it even sweeter and this is exactly what the Northants “Thunder” Under 15 Boys did at Bromsgrove School last Sunday.
The game opened up with “Riders” playing a match-up zone defence which caused “Thunder” all sorts of problems. They were playing excellent defence themselves forcing numerous missed shots from “Riders” but they seemed reluctant to run the ball back allowing the Leicester players to set up their zone defence. All this led to an attritional ten minutes of play with “Riders” edging the first quarter by eight points to ten. Download Full Press Release
“Lightning” Under 11 Girls are YBL Champions
On the back of 16 points from Gracie Barrett and an excellent defensive performance the Northants “Lightning” Under 11 Girls retained the Under 11 Girls YBL title for the Northants club.

The first quarter was a cagey affair with both teams managing just six points. The game was broken open in the second quarter which “Lightning” won by 24 points to four, Barrett contributing 14 of those points. “Predators” were much more competitive in the third quarter but some determined defence and excellent rebounding from Samanta Sudeikyte gave “Lightning” the edge 16-12 and a 46-22 lead going into the final stanza. This seriously affected the team’s play and “Tornadoes” were able to reduce the deficit by winning the third quarter 10-4 and they were able to maintain their momentum in the fourth quarter through Al Jalabi. His 14 points helped the home team win the quarter 25-eight and tie the game up at 57 all.

Press Release 28 - Under 14 Boys are Midlands Conference Champions
Under 14 Boys NBL Midlands Conference Northants “Thunder” 97 – 80 Tamworth “Tigers
The Northants Under 14 Boys put pay to any speculation about the outcome of the Midlands Conference title with a comfortable win over Tamworth “Tigers” in a high scoring game.
When the two teams had met earlier in the season in Tamworth, “Thunder” had cruised to a comfortable thirty plus points win but “Tigers” were a much more competitive outfit last Saturday and were only trailing 18-19 going into the final two minutes of the first quarter. They were then well and truly “Kellyed” as the “thunder” forward scored eight points to give his side a 29-18 lead.
“Tigers” were competitive for the rest of the game winning the second quarter 20-19 despite missing ten free throws. “Thunder” edged the final two quarters with Luca Garratt looking impressive as they close out the win by 97 points to 80 led by 26 points from Anton Kelly and 25 from Garratt; Joelle Stiete-French and Al Mustafa Yinusu with 13 and 10 points respectively.
Needing a win to keep their Conference title hopes alive with a win over fourth placed “Big Sky” West Bromwich Albion, the Northants Under 16 Boys produced their worst half of basketball to trail 34-53 at half time.
There were stern words for the team during the half time interval and it was a different “Thunder” team that took to the court in the second half. Five three-pointers in the third quarter saw “Thunder” outscore their opponents 23-16 to narrow the gap to 12 points with everything to play for in the final ten minutes. Twenty plus points hauls from Benas Maldutis and Danielius Jokulus helped the Northants Junior Men to a revenge win over Oxford “Hoops” last Saturday.
“Thunder” made a good start to the game jumping out to a 7-zero lead but they then became guilty of turning the ball over gifting Oxford easy scores. This allowed the home side to establish a 22-16 lead after the first quarter but “Thunder” were able to ‘up’ the intensity of their defence in the second quarter and when “Hoops” missed shots they were able launch a number of fast break against the loose Oxford backcourt cover. “Thunder” took the quarter 17-11 to tie the scores up at 33 all at half time.
The third quarter was an attritional affair with both teams struggling to score and the scores were still tied at 45 all going into the final ten minutes of play. CLICK HERE to download the full Press Release

Leading by 39 points to 28 at half time of this Midlands 2 Conference game the Northants “Thunder” Junior Men looked well set to avenge their loss to Bromsgrove “Bears” earlier in the season. In the first twenty minutes of play “Thunder” had combined good defence with some controlled offensive basketball. With Elias James and Rapolas Radavicius controlling the defensive boards “Thunder” were able to score freely from fast break.
The control shown by “Thunder” in the first half disappeared after half time when confronted by some more aggressive “Bears” defence and they were guilty of turning the ball over allowing “Bears” to eat into the “Thunder” lead. The Bromsgrove team won the third quarter 22-13 to close the gap to just two points and they took the lead midway through the fourth quarter eventually extending this lead to nine points CLICK HERE to download the full Press Release

The Northants Under 16 Boys stay top of the Midlands I Conference after this battling comeback win against the City of Birmingham “Rockets” second string. C.O.B. led at half time and it wasn’t until the third minute of the third quarter that “Thunder” got their noses in front for the first time.
The first quarter saw “Thunder” missing a couple of key players, produce some of their worst basketball of the season so far combining lacklustre offence with naïve defence as their full court man-to-man defence was ripped apart by “Rockets”. A combination of injuries, illnesses and registration problems meant that the Northants Junior Men had only six of their roster available for their second national league game of the season. Three Under 16 players were drafted in for the game having already played against Tamworth and facing another game the following day so the six “Thunder” ‘regulars’ knew they would have to play mega minutes.
Coach Darjius’s message to his team was very simple, “Play smart and keep out of foul trouble.” In the event his players did just this and on the back of some disciplined defence were able to record a hard fought eight point win. :: CLICK TO DOWNLOAD ::

By the end of the third quarter of this Midland Conference game “Thunder” had established a 20 points plus lead at 57-34, but by this time three of their players had fouled out of the game. There was never any real possibility that “Warriors” would close the gap, but they did win the final quarter 19-14.
The first quarter was a typical early season game with both teams struggling to find any kind of rhythm. “Thunder” edged the quarter 16-10 and this lead was extended to 37-25 by half time. Some excellent “Thunder” defence in the third quarter restricted the visitors to just nine points while scoring twenty points themselves to establish a 57-34 lead. That defence however, had come at a price with three players having fouled out leaving “Thunder” to hang on for the victory. In the 18 point win Benas Maldutis top scored for “Thunder” with 21 points, Thomas Bates supporting well with 13 points before fouling out. :: CLICK TO DOWNLOAD ::
